What is Enterprising North East England 2008?
Enterprising North East England 2008 is part of Enterprising Britain 2008 - a nationwide competition to find the most enterprising place in the UK – a place where enterprise has helped transform a community and led to improved economic prospects for the area.
Enterprising Britain is free to enter and open to all places (in the UK), such as a town, a city, a parish or neighbourhood that can demonstrate how they have transformed the community through enterprise in the last two years. This may be anything from a town that has introduced specific ways to increase employment in the area, to an individual project, which has introduced an innovative enterprise strategy to overcome a particular local challenge.
All entrants must be able to demonstrate that enterprise is central to the economic and/or social transformation of the area. The competition is not open to individual entrepreneurs or businesses. There is a prize fund of £30,000 available for the regional winner to be used to further develop their project.
The timetable for assessments is as follows:
| 18 February 2008 | Official launch of Enterprising Britain 2008 |
| 18 April 2008 | Deadline for completed entry forms for regional competition |
| April/May | Short-listing of entries and presentations to judging panel for short-listed entrants |
| 31 May | Regional winner officially announced and entered into national competition |
| June - July | Judging of National Competition |
| September | National Winner to be announced at Awards Ceremony and entered into European Enterprise Awards |
| Spring 2009 | European Enterprise Awards ceremony |
