Charge your Car

Charge your Car is the North East’s Plugged in Places project which aims to roll-out electric vehicle charging points across the region. North East England is one of three places chosen as a front-runner in the trialling and adoption of electric car charging infrastructure. The project is funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), One North East and North East regional partners.

A total of 1,300 charging points will be installed across the region over the next three years on streets, in car parks, at residential and commercial locations and at retail and leisure facilities. The charging points will be a mix of public access, workplace and domestic chargers.

Over 60 partners are now supporting this project, ranging from all twelve local authorities, Universities and transport providers as well as private businesses.

Grant funding contribution available

Funding is available for businesses and organisations across the North East towards the procurement, installation and commissioning of standard electric vehicle charging points. A 50% grant funding contribution is currently available for the hosts of standard charging points. The region will also install twelve quick chargers at key locations across North East England and 100% funding is available to hosts of these units. Once suitable locations have been agreed the project will procure the charging posts on behalf of the host. Find out more about funding available and the criteria for hosts.
